Every now and then someone makes something so simple that it becomes an instant hit. But when that same person then removes it because it is “to addictive” then you need to ask yourself – huh?<\/p>\n
If you have never heard of Flappy Bird<\/strong><\/em> let me introduce you, to well, the bird…<\/p>\n It might not look like much but yes it is a bird (in 8 bit land), and the only way that it can fly is if you tap on your phones screen. The faster you tap the higher it flies. If you don’t tap it turns into a lead weight and dive bombs into the ground. \u00a0To make things even more difficult you need to navigate Flappy Bird<\/em> between pipes. To high or to low and it flies into the pipes. Gliding (without touching) between the pipes earns a point. Get 10 points and you earn a medal…easy right?<\/p>\n Flappy Bird<\/em> Game Play – click to view animated GIF<\/p><\/div>\n When you look at the game play it seems easy, but actually playing it is another story… the highest score that I have ever gotten was 16 points… and that was after playing MANY games.<\/p>\n Flappy Bird<\/i>\u00a0was created and developed by Dong Nguyen,\u00a0\u00a0a\u00a0Vietnam-based\u00a0developer and then published by\u00a0.GEARS Studios. \u00a0It was released on\u00a0released on 24 May 2013, but only shot in popularity in early 2014.<\/p>\n On the 8th February 8, 2014, Nguyen announced on\u00a0Twitter: “I am sorry ‘Flappy Bird’ users, 22 hours from now, I will take ‘Flappy Bird’ down. I cannot take this anymore.”<\/em> He went on to say that taking down the game had “nothing to do with legal issues”<\/em>…<\/p>\n On the 10th February 2014, Flappy Bird<\/i>\u00a0was removed from both\u00a0Google Play and Apple’s App Store.<\/p>\n In an interview with\u00a0Forbes<\/i>, Nguyen cited the game’s addictive nature for its cancellation, stating: “Flappy Bird\u00a0was designed to play in a few minutes when you are relaxed. But it happened to become an addictive product. I think it has become a problem. To solve that problem, it’s best to take down\u00a0Flappy Bird. It’s gone forever.”<\/em> Nguyen said that the guilt he felt over the game was affecting his sleep, and that his conscience was relieved after he took the game down…<\/p>\n I must agree it is a very addictive game, but thankfully I am not going to be loosing any sleep anytime soon over it\u00a0.<\/p>\n If you want to see what all the fuss was all about you can do a Google Search for the Flappy Bird.apk<\/a><\/em>.
