{"id":1797,"date":"2014-02-22T08:00:59","date_gmt":"2014-02-22T06:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/outofmymind.scanlen.com\/?p=1797"},"modified":"2014-02-18T19:33:22","modified_gmt":"2014-02-18T17:33:22","slug":"error-you-have-been-logged-on-with-temporary-profile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/outofmymind.scanlen.com\/?p=1797","title":{"rendered":"Error: \u201cYou have been logged on with Temporary profile\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1706\" alt=\"Topic-Windows\" src=\"http:\/\/outofmymind.scanlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Topic-Windows.jpeg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Had a client the other day who was working fine one day and then the next day every time that she logged onto her computer she was greeted with a message that said <em>&#8220;You have been logged on with a Temporary profile&#8221;<\/em>. \u00a0All her files and folders were &#8220;missing&#8221; and she had to go to a client urgently&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>This is what the message looked like:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1798\" alt=\"error-tempprofile\" src=\"http:\/\/outofmymind.scanlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/error-tempprofile-300x104.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"104\" srcset=\"https:\/\/outofmymind.scanlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/error-tempprofile-300x104.jpg 300w, https:\/\/outofmymind.scanlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/error-tempprofile.jpg 421w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I firstly logged on as the local Administrator and checked, yup her user account was listed in the Administrators group. Logged off and tried to logon again &#8211; same thing.<\/p>\n<p>Renamed the profile folder found under C:\\Users folder to 1. in front. \u00a0Logged off and tried to logon as her again &#8211; same temporary profile error.<\/p>\n<p>I was like what the @#$%? So I did a quick Google search and it seems that it is a common issue., however not many people actually state how to fix it. \u00a0Thankfully I stumbled across Sysprobs.com and they had an article on this issue &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sysprobs.com\/fix-temporary-profile-windows-7\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.sysprobs.com\/fix-temporary-profile-windows-7<\/a>\u00a0 . The author lists a number of fixes however the on that worked for me was the registry fix. Check it out:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><em>Why Windows 7 Loads with Temporary Profile?<\/em><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>Obviously, your profile (the files and folders located under C:\\Users\\user_name) is corrupted. There is another chance which is a delay in reading your profile files due to Antivirus scan or something else during boot up. Usually after typing your user name and password Windows tries to read and load your profile, if it gets corrupted or delay in reading, Windows will load with temp profile to give temporary access on computer.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><em>How to Fix Windows 7 Temp Issue on Workgroup and Domain Environment<\/em><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p><strong>1)<\/strong>\u00a0Before do anything,\u00a0<strong>restart the computer 2 or 3 times<\/strong>\u00a0to see whether it\u2019s going back to your old correct profile. Go to next step if this doesn\u2019t work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2)<\/strong>\u00a0Rename the temp profile registry and revert back the old registry settings for the correct profile. This method works most of the time for me in Workgroup and domain environment.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>a)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Log in with temp profile.<br \/>\n<strong><em>b)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Start registry editor by typing\u00a0<strong>regedit<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>in find box of Windows 7.<br \/>\n<strong><em>c)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Navigate the following location.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\ProfileList<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1804\" alt=\"tempprofile-windows7registry\" src=\"http:\/\/outofmymind.scanlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/tempprofile-windows7registry.png\" width=\"572\" height=\"121\" srcset=\"https:\/\/outofmymind.scanlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/tempprofile-windows7registry.png 572w, https:\/\/outofmymind.scanlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/tempprofile-windows7registry-300x63.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 572px) 100vw, 572px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0<strong><em>d)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 You will see similar keys under profile list, but one with .<strong><em>bak<\/em><\/strong>, as shown below.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1803\" alt=\"tempprofile-correctprofile\" src=\"http:\/\/outofmymind.scanlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/tempprofile-correctprofile.png\" width=\"380\" height=\"129\" srcset=\"https:\/\/outofmymind.scanlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/tempprofile-correctprofile.png 380w, https:\/\/outofmymind.scanlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/tempprofile-correctprofile-300x101.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 380px) 100vw, 380px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em>e)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The key with .bak is for the correct old profile. Currently your Windows 7 computer logged in with fresh (temporary) profile with same key. So, rename the new profile key ( which is not having.bak) and remove .bak from correct profile key. See below.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1802\" alt=\"tempprofile-bakremoved\" src=\"http:\/\/outofmymind.scanlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/tempprofile-bakremoved.png\" width=\"375\" height=\"134\" srcset=\"https:\/\/outofmymind.scanlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/tempprofile-bakremoved.png 375w, https:\/\/outofmymind.scanlen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/tempprofile-bakremoved-300x107.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em>f)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 That\u2019s it. Log off and log in (or restart) with your user name and password. You must get your correct profile with icons and profile settings back in Windows 7, if you are lucky enough.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Well I guess I was very lucky!
