$#*! My Dad Says…

DISCLAIMER: SENSITIVE READERS MAY BE OFFENDED BY THIS POST.   (PG: L)

I dig William Shatner.  Star Trek and Boston Legal, the dude is a legend.  So naturally when I heard he was starring in a new TV series called “$#*! My Dad Says” I just had to see what it was about.

The TV series is based on a Twitter feed by Justin Halpern, on the crazy comments his dad Sam Halpern says on different things in life. To quote Wikipedia:

Justin Halpern started the account on August 3, 2009, soon after moving from Los Angeles back to his parents’ house in San Diego. He intended it only as a storage site for his father’s salty comments, but a friend posted a link to it. Comedian Rob Corddry then tweeted the link, and that really “jump-started it” according to Halpern. In less than a month, the page was mentioned by The Daily Show, a popular San Francisco blog called Laughing Squid, and actress Kristen Bell. As of February 3, 2011, the feed has over 2,000,000 followers.

In September 2009, Justin Halpern found an agent and started sifting through book deals. He signed an agreement with Harper Collins in October 2009. The book based on the feed, titled Sh*t My Dad Says, was co-written with Halpern’s longtime writing partner Patrick Schumacker, and was released on May 4, 2010. During its first week, the book reached #8 on The New York Times Best Seller list for hardcover nonfiction.Five weeks after its release, the book was #1 on the list.

In November 2009, CBS announced that it was developing a television sitcom based on the Twitter feed, which would star William Shatner. The series, officially titled $#*! My Dad Says (spoken as Bleep My Dad Says), was green-lighted by CBS in May 2010 and is airing on CBS on Thursday nights currently

This is what the REAL Sam Halpern looks like and some of the posts on Twitter:

Seriously if you can watch this series or can read the tweets you will be rolling on the floor laughing at what this guy says.

In closing one of my favorites is:

“A parent’s only as good as their dumbest kid. If one wins a Nobel Prize but the other gets robbed by a hooker, you failed.”

LEGO Memories…

I doubt there are many children in this world that don’t know what LEGO is or have not played with it before.

I was fortunate to have an ice-cream container full of LEGO. I used to build spaceships and cars with rocket boosters and used to race them around the bedroom carpet. Hours would pass in a blink of an eye while playing with LEGO. I see that the bug is starting to bite my son as every time we pass the LEGO shop at the local mall he wants to go in…

Anyway, when I saw an official LEGO USB Drive, a Lego door stop and historical figures out of LEGO, I just had to share these finds with you!

LEGO Brick Door Stop (Cost: Wool and 8 Coke Bottle Tops)

I am seriously thinking of asking one of my 3 wives (Eliska / Sandy / Keka 🙂 ) if they will knit me one of these.  Seriously how cool is this.

Lazyastro over at Instructables has a full on step by step on how to make one, and  all that is needed is:

  • 1x Brick
  • 1x Ball of Wool
  • 8x Plastic bottle caps
  • Some thread
  • Someone that knows how to knit…

Head over to Instuctables to download the instructions – http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-knit-a-giant-lego-brick-doorstop/

Historical Figures made out of LEGO

I stumbled across a website called UrbanTitan that had an article on historical figures that were made out of LEGO. According to the article:

In 2007, Fine Clonier ran a contest that invited people to create historical figures out of Legos… They’re all pretty fabulous… Incidentally, the Mark Twain design above was the overall contest winner. Pretty deserved, I’d say – that hair is spectacular.

What does Pi Sound Like?

According to Wikipedia, Pi is is a mathematical constant whose value is the ratio of any Euclidean plane circle’s circumference to its diameter; this is the same value as the ratio of a circle’s area to the square of its radius. It is approximately equal to 3.14159265 in the usual decimal notation. Many formulae from mathematics, science, and engineering involve Pi, which makes it one of the most important mathematical constants.

Michael John Blake a jazz saxophonist a member of the the Lounge Lizards from 1990, assigned a music cord to a number and then played the notes to the value of Pi…this is what it sounds like:

Monday Movie Mix – South African Kids TV Blast from the Past

When I was a kid I could spend hours in front of the TV watching the animated series playing over and over.  Here in South Africa they also used to dub the sound track in Afrikaans, so shows like “David the Gnome” were known here locally as “Dawie die Kabouter”…

Well here is Monday Movie Mix (compliments of YouTube) playing the intros to the animation series that us “older” generation grew up with.
Enjoy!

Android: Cordy

I don’t really use my cellphone (HTC Desire) for gaming, but there is a game that I found recently that is not only FREE (and installs to SD Card) but also the graphics make you feel like you playing a Sony PSP.

SilverTree Media developed the game Cordy, and basically you contol Cordy who is a little robot with a big job – to power up his world! Help him run, jump, push, pull, lift, and throw his way through exciting puzzles in beautiful places.  If you enjoyed playing Mario Bros or Sonic as a kid you will love this game!

Here are two screen shots:

But to really get a feel for the game check out this YouTube clip:
